Project Description:

This Chevron Tree was first designed by me in 2005 (which was before I owned a Silhouette) to be cut by hand. I redesigned this card so that it can be cut using cutting machines. It is far faster! The design which features a 3-D folded chevron is sized to fit in a classic business-sized envelop which can be purchased in appropriate colors during the holiday season.

Cutting File here
8.5 x 11" card stock - white, red, green
Tape runner
Zig Glue
Letter Size envelope in color

Card Base (red) 7.75" w x 8,75" h.
Tree Backing (green) 3.5"w x 8"H.

Steps for completing the Chevron Christmas Card:

1. Download the cutting files for your cutting machine from the 3dcuts.com store here.

2. Load the files into your cutting software following the steps for your cutting machine.

3. Prepare the files:.

4. Cut the files.

The red and green background pieces can be cut on your machine although I often find it quicker to do that on a paper cutter. The large piece is 7.75" w x 8,75" h. The smaller rectangle is 3.5"w x 8"H.
The large piece needs to be scored down the middle.
The white piece with the tree should be cut on your cutter.

5. Remove the cutting mat carefully. I find the paper curls less if I peel the mat away from the paper and not the other way around.

6. Fold down the chevron shapes of the tree.

Each triangle portion of the tree gets folded down and creased in place.
Be sure that the fold is at the end of the slits and that the slits are even.
Each folded triangle should fold at the same angle as the previous one.

Apply the adhesive of choice to the back of the tree piece- only the flat area, not the triangles.
I used a tomboy tape runner for this project but other adhesives would work as well.
Postion the white tree piece into the center of the smaller rectangle- here green and adhere working to keep the margins the same all around.

Adhere the star to the top of the tree. I used Zig glue for this.

Score and then fold the red rectangle in half along the longer axis.
Adhere the green rectangle to the front of the card. I used a tape runner for adhesive.

The card is complete for you to add a message inside.
